Globe Trekker - Turkey 2 featuring Adela Ucar
Globe Trekker - Turkey 2 featuring Adela Ucar
Globe Trekker Adela Ucar's Turkish adventure begins in the historical town of Konya, home to the whirling dervish orders. A bastion of Islamic faith and Seljuk culture, it's a city where ancient history meets modernity, from ancient mosques and myriad markets, perfumed with Eastern spices, where Muslim pilgrims mingle with secular citizens in tranquil tea gardens. Her journey continues along the coastline of the Aegean Sea. She treks along the Lycian Way, exploring ancient rock-hewn tombs which dot the hills surrounding Myra, and relaxing on sun-kissed beaches. She travels on to Adana, Turkey's 4th largest city and home to the Sabancı Mosque, the largest mosque between Istanbul and Saudi Arabia which can accommodate 20000 worshipers and even has a small elevator tucked away in one of its minarets. The city is also renowned for its exquisite cuisine - notably the Adana Kebab -- and famed for its Salgam, a salty fermented juice made from turnips. Journeying onwards and off-the-beaten-track, Adela visits the historic south eastern region of Anatolia. With its jagged mountain peaks, sun-kissed plains, extinct volcanoes, immense lakes, and historic cities -- it's a region filled with exoticism and adventure. First, she stops off at Gaziantep, a city buzzing with café culture hedonism, it's filled with Roman, Byzantine, Arab, and Ottoman architecture - clusters of old stone houses, a mighty citadel, ancient fortress - bustling bazaars and brimming with bakery shops, said to ...

Greetings, This is an open letter to all journalists of the free world. We encourage you to stand forth in solidarity with your fellow journalists who have been arrested in Turkey. Currently the count is now up to one hundred and seventeen members of the press and mainstream media. This is an attack on free speech and democracy not only for the citizens of Turkey but also for the world. We ask the world's media and journalists to investigate and dig into the cult leader Fethulah Gulen and into his cult followers who have been placed around the world to open schools and business. Gulen and cult members are trying to dominate the world's education systems and raking billions of dollars annually with no regard for law, safety and equal rights in any country that they have infiltrated, it is now time to hold them accountable. Gulen has tremendous political clout in Turkey and his cult members abuses the privileges to serve the public by labeling those who stand against them or to write about them by calling them terrorists for which they arrested for. Gulen has had already over one thousand lawsuits filed against private citizens in his home country for insulting him or his agenda. They abuse the democracy to ensure fear and scare tactics against anyone who wishes to challenge them. This should never be tolerated and we should all fight back. I am doing a scientific content analysis of the Koran using particular verses and particular hadith [traditions related to the Prophet Mohammad] which show this. The Islamic League of Kurdistan reacted to the book by issuing a fatwa against its author. The mullahs and scholars said [that] if I go to them and apologize, they will give me eighty lashes and then refer me to the fatwa committee to decide if I am to be beheaded. They might forgive me, they might not, said Mr. Halabjayee. He says that he is now in hiding. Imad Ahmad is the deputy prime minister of the Kurdish regional government in Sulaymaniyah: A number of clerical associations and religious persons have registered a legal case against him for his writings and they consider his work worse [more offensive] than [Indian born British author] Salman Rushdie.
